Chapter 16

I found water. Never had I enjoyed water more. I was convinced that water was the most luxurious element in the universe. It was the one thing that made life secure.

I found it on my fourth trip. I didn't even hear it before I saw it lazily running across my intended path. No hesitation. I walked in. The stream was about fifteen centimetres deep so I lay down in it with my face exposed to the warm air. After a long euphoric daydream, I took my clothes off to clean them and myself.

It was better than baptism, it was better than coming out of a tomb after three days of people thinking you were dead, it was a rebirth.

Besides a pound of rare red meat, I knew where to find everything I wanted and needed. My little stream of life was two hundred and seven orange berries from home base, my fruit was thirty-nine berries from base, my red berries were twenty berries from base and my orange markers were thirty berries from home base. At home base I had some edible greenery, fungus and the very satisfying potato-peanuts.

The only thing I though I needed in addition was the location of my spacecraft.
